Guess who’s back?!

Here’s to 2012! Here’s to getting back to blogging.

I spent my last few moments of 2011 with good friends, too much Champagne, and fierce board game competition. Here’s to getting back to sharing my life with all of you!

Blocked Out

The most memorable moment of this year’s Grammy Award’s was not in-fact Cee Lo Green’s Elton John-esque, Big-bird suit or Christina Aguilera’s tragic tumble. The Alexandra Fitzpatrick Grammy Most Memorable Moment Award goes to….dun dun dun….Gwyneth Paltrow. What a gal! She completely stole the show, strutting onto stage wearing Christian Louboutin Futura Heels. My mouth nearly hit the floor — I’ve never wanted anything so badly. Even though my modest bank account does not have $1,095 ready for splurging, I still plan on hopping on the colorblock train as soon as possible. Bold hues and dramatic pieces are a must.

Spring Ahead

After slipping on melting ice and falling straight into a puddle this morning, I am dying for it to be spring and eventually, summer. I was reminded today — thanks to the 50 degree weather — that my campus actually does have grass on it…weird. Nothing says spring like floral prints. Whether bold and vibrant or pale and subdued, I’m craving more patterns to help me survive the next few weeks. Here are a few pieces I’m lusting while I wait for my weather app to start showing temperatures above 65.

Navy and Gold

Sometimes the best color combinations are the one’s that are most unexpected. Navy and Gold is refined yet bold. Together they reminds me of preppy embroidered blazers, nautical scenes, and my middle school mascot (the knights). I prefer the glitziest golds and the most regal navy blues.

1. Billabong Shala Sequin Cardigan Sweater — $79.45

2. Top Shop Moto Indigo Paper Bag Waist — $65

3. Toms Gilded Herringbone Women’s Classics — $54

4. Chloe Navy Shift Dress

5. J.Crew Solid Eliza Tee — $59

6. Top Shop Fish Wrap Around Ring — $28

7. OPI Curry Up, Don’t Be Late — $5.25

Making Me Blush

Sometimes it takes something soft and subtle to make and outfit pop — I’m loving the quietness of blush and neutral tones, especially for my feet.  There’s something so perfect about the color, whether it’s a shade of light nude or rose gold. Ever since Demi Moore wore her Atelier Versace silk organza gown in blush to the 2010 Academy Awards I’ve worked to incorporate more of this color into my closet. I love the way the lightness takes the focus off of the foot and elongates the leg, just as a ballerina wears a nude flat for the same effect. The blush shoe is a classic that should have a spot in every girls closet, right next to her most trusted pair of black pumps.

1. Mea Shadow Medea — $190

2. L.A.M.B. Crepe — $365

3. Anthropologie Via Cardorna Wedges — $198

4. Steve Madden PROPPERR — $99.95

5. Forever 21 Suedette Basketweave Cone Heels — $25.80

6. Pierre Dumas Carolina 3 — $65

Butternut Squash Soup

My roommate, Lauren, and I whipped up some butternut squash soup for dinner the other night. It was quick, simple, and super healthy! Be sure to check out the recipe here.

Seeing Stripes

I’ll be the first to admit that I get bored more easily than most. I love to constantly be in motion — moving onto the next new and exciting thing before the last has even wrapped up. It comes as no surprise, that after a season, I’m usually ready to ditch the latest fashion fad and start craving the next….but not this time! Whether vertical or horizontal, as the focal point of an outfit or a small detail, stripes have proven resilience and adaptability; they work with all seasons, all outfits, and are super flattering! I’m currently loving navy blues, black (of course) and grays. Try adding bright red lips to jazz it up a bit!

Here are just a few picks I’m dying to get my hands on:

1. Top Shop Blue Canvas Holdall Bag — $70

2. Anthropologie Olle Cowlneck — $88

3. Top Shop Stripe Cream Ponte 3/4 Sleeve Shift Dress — $80

4. Madewell Set Sail Shorts — $88

5. J.Crew Patterned Classic Ballet Flats — $118

Top 5

The current top 5 things I’m loving.

1. Peppermint Tea – I drink at least three cups a day.

2. Polaroids – My boyfriend Zachary bought me a Polaroid camera for Christmas and I couldn’t have been more thrilled. There’s something about a polaroid that makes a photo that much more sentimental.

3. Sephora Lip Stick in Delirious Rose

4. Kate Nash – Merry Happy

” cause you can grow flowers from where dirt used to be.”

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

5. My Bed -School’s about to start up again and I’ll hardly see it again.  Taking it in while I can.

Silky Smooth

I’ve been hooked on these blouses ever since I bought an ash gray one from Madewell a few months ago.  They’re a closet staple and J.Crew and Madewell have perfected them.  Each blouse has a unique lady like structure enhanced by the silky fabric, yet their femininity is contrasted with boyish utilitarian pockets.  I’m completely convinced that this shirt is one of the most versatile pieces in my closet, I can pair it with skinny jeans for class, over a mini or under a pencil to dress it up — layer it with some chunky jewelry and violá!

1. J.Crew Silk Blyth Blouse — $98

2. Madewell Silk Cargo Shirt — $110
